We are all trying to get healthier, live longer, and be happier, right? And while a lot of the talk around health today focuses on the body, very little of the wellness conversation is centered on a critical aspect of your well-being… your spirit. When the body, mind, and spirit are each attended to, that's when you achieve amazing results in your life!
More and more studies reveal the connection between our bodies, minds, and spirits. Our spiritual health directly impacts our physical health and well-being.
Which of these describes you best?
When there are disconnects among our thoughts, beliefs, and actions, they become manifested in our lives. Many have experienced some of the struggles listed above and overcame them when they approached their health holistically, tending to Body, Mind, and Spirit.
Why should I care about forgiveness? Are you concerned about:
Research in the last ten years has shown that holding grudges has a direct and negative effect on health, leading to the outcomes listed above.
Did you know that you do NOT have to be religious to have a healthy, active spirit? And that your belief in a higher power is only one indicator that your spirit is as strong as it should be?
Meet Shihan Amy Giles and Rev. Melissa Ebken
Being in love with movement her whole life, Amy Giles purchased a martial arts school in 2001. She has gone on to train hundreds of people of all ages to cultivate confidence through movement at Progressive Kenpo Karate. Amy is an internationally recognized martial artist and the highest-ranking female Black Belt in the United States under Israeli Krav International.
When the pandemic struck, Amy saw the need to expand her services. She founded MindBody Fitness, an online mindset and fitness program for people at midlife and beyond. Her mission was (and remains) to help others overcome their limiting beliefs, so they recognize their worth, cultivate newfound confidence and awaken to their TRUE potential.
When Amy's not kicking and punching, she enjoys time with her family, floating in her pool, long walks on a beach (of course) and promoting local fashion boutiques on her Facebook page - My Purple Blazer.
Melissa was called into ministry, much to her surprise, after becoming a biologist and serving for ten years in the IL Army National Guard as a utility helicopter mechanic, the first woman to do so. She has served in Illiopolis and Niantic since 2001.
Melissa is at home in the difficult spaces of peoples’ lives, willing to listen and to walk with those who struggle and suffer. She is a trained coach and has consulted with churches in conflict. Her current pursuits include founding a Virtual Assistant training academy, forming a ministry co-op to better serve small churches, supporting nurses to thrive in stressful climates through building emotional intelligence, and guiding people who are ready to lean into and overcome difficult challenges and experiences in their lives.
She authored a book Teach Us To Pray: An Ancient Model For a Modern Day, and has a podcast called Pursuing Uncomfortable.
I recently accepted the opportunity to do the ‘Fit to Forgive’ seminar online hosted by Pastor Melissa Ebken and Shihan Amy Giles with Progressive Kenpo Karate. What a revelation to combine our spiritual world with our physical world in such an enlightening and very practical way. The tools each provided during the program were more beneficial than I could have imagined. I have already started to apply the wisdom and techniques in my personal life and I really want to share this with my family and others. It helped me to realize who I am spiritually, and others as well. And it helped me to understand how I can physically help my spirit and body to become more fit. This was explained so well and is very easy to comprehend. I definitely recommend that others take this opportunity too! We’re never too old or young to gain a better understanding of how we can manage in the day to day when we have a resource like this! Thank you Melissa and Amy!
