Is Coaching For Me?

06/07/2021

God’s wisdom is with the people of God. I remind myself of this truth again and again when I fall into the familiar trap of thinking that I need to be an expert, or consult an expert to get over the “hump” when I am stuck trying to find a creative solution to a problem. Actually, what I find, is that when someone asks me the right question, all kinds of inspiration sparks in my mind and creative ideas overflow my thoughts. I am ready to move forward and start taking action.
There are times when I have been neglectful in maintaining my physical health and nutrition. Ugh! I know what I need to do. I know what I need to stop doing. I don’t need advice. I don’t need information, I need someone to help me hold myself accountable.
When big life moments crash into my present reality, it’s been hard to think straight; like when my dad passed away, or when it came time for my mom to move out of her home and into a new way of living. I have helped people through these situations many times, but when I found myself in those moments, it was hard to think straight. I didn’t need a teacher or a counselor - I didn’t need new information. I needed greater awareness. Having someone in my life that helped me prioritize the many different demands tugging at me made all the difference.
In each of these situations, what I needed was for someone to ask me the right questions at the right time to help me identify priorities, goals, and strategies in order to move forward. I do not like the feeling of emotional or mental paralysis; that feeling of being “stuck” because I can’t get my mind wrapped around what I need to do - or break the tunnel vision that has me bound. In these times, if I stay there too long my attitude takes a downward turn, and my work and relationships begin to show signs of stress.
A coach is that person who asks the right questions at the right time in order for YOU to find the answers you need within YOURSELF. I’m a firm believer in the thought that we generally know the answers we seek, we just might need help bringing them forward and putting them into practice.
There are few greater feelings than feeling empowered and motivated about life! Where are you “stuck”? Where do you need accountability? Where do you need more awareness? Contact me today and I will ask you the right questions at the right time!

Hello Friends!

Hi, my name is Melissa Ebken, and I'm so glad you found your way here.

I am at home in the difficult spaces of peoples’ lives, willing to listen and to support those who work to grow themselves. I am a trained coach and have consulted with churches in conflict. Not your stereotypical minister, I embrace the Gospel with joy and laughter as I seek to help those around me grow in faith and understanding, always striving to leave people better than they came. An agent of wholeness, I create a safe space for people, especially those who have been marginalized, where they can understand how ridiculously loved and valued they are by God/Higher Power/Spirit, and to experience the difference that makes in life.

I started the Pursuing Uncomfortable Podcast to share the stories of people who have faced life's most difficult challenges, to inspire you to lean into and overcome your own. It's helpful to know that you're not alone in your struggles and to see how others have navigated similar circumstances. You can listen to it here.
