We. Would. Not. Be. Here. Without. Nurses. Full stop.
In the best of times, nurses are the overworked, under-appreciated backbone of our healthcare system. When I have been in the hospital as a patient, a family member, a pastor, or a friend nurses kept the ball rolling. RNs, LPNs, CNAs - we would be hopeless without their contributions. And when a pandemic comes... they show their commitment and dedication for caring for us in heroic ways.
In 2009, I suffered a miscarriage and was hospitalized. Big respect to the doctors - but it was a nurse who sat with me and held my hand as I cried. It was a nurse that told me the stories of so many women who experience what I experienced. It was a nurse who told me as I left that she looked forward to seeing me there again in labor and delivery. Her name was Annie and I will never forget her. Annie had a very busy floor with lots of women to care for. Some were jubilant, some were devastated, some were terrified, others anxious. She floated in and out of all our rooms, through all of those piles of emotion, and engaged us where we were and helped us to heal.
Show a nurse your appreciation
Each day, I am going to share about nurses on social media. I hope you will join in the celebration. Let's shower our nurses with love and appreciation. They are tired. So, so tired. Let's show them that their efforts are noticed.
Also - I'm all in if someone wants to get a parade together...

Hello Friends!
Hi, my name is Melissa Ebken, and I'm so glad you found your way here.
I help people like you to become grounded in their spiritual beliefs and practices, and grow in their faith. Connecting with the Divine is as natural as drawing a breath - yet sometimes we struggle to separate our intuition and imagination from genuine spiritual encounters, often believing those experiences are beyond our grasp. To begin, I will help you understand your spiritual personality so you can more easily engage with your Higher Power. Then, I will listen. I have found that having a "Holy Listener" allows you to explore your spiritual life and express your thoughts, feelings, and emotions related to your spirituality. Your connection, relationship, and communication with your Higher Power will broaden and deepen.
I have served churches for 25+ years and strive to support people as they grow spiritually and emotionally. I believe that our spiritual lives fuel our physical and emotional experience of life, and I seek to help others connect with their deepest and most authentic self. I began the fiLLLed spiritual direction program to create a safe space for people to explore their spirituality and grow their faith.
