What Does Faith Say About the Election?

“I look up to the mountains;

does my strength come from mountains?

No, my strength comes from God,

who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.”

-Psalm 121:1-2 The Message

Americans go to the polls tomorrow. Does our strength come from the election outcome? No. Our strength comes from God. Until we look to the source of our strength, we will ride a roller coaster of hope and fear, joy and despair. Without doubt, our national leaders have an impact on our daily lives. But they are not the source of our strength.

God has overcome kings and emperors and the like throughout history, and God will continue to work in the hearts of people. That’s where the real obstacles lay. As long as we harbor anger and resentment in our hearts, it doesn’t matter who sits in the Oval Office or any level of government.

When we look inside ourselves and commit and connect with God in our deepest breaths - that’s when transformation occurs. When we eradicate hatred for others that’s when transformation occurs. When we begin to love ourselves as God loves us, transformation occurs. When we begin to love others in our home and in our communities with the love of God, transformation occurs.

Cast your vote. It matters. But don’t stop there. Look inside yourself until you see the face of God shining upon you. And then go and share that with those around you.

I look to the election results; does my strength come from election results? No, my strength comes from God who made heaven, earth, mountains, and elections.
